Porsche GT4RS Clubsport

In our previous blog, we spoke about our private test day involving our pair of Fiesta Juniors - you can read about that here (Fiesta Juniors Featuring Daryl De Leon). However, we also brought along our Porsche GT4RS Clubsport, where it spent the afternoon in the hands of BTCC driver Daryl De Leon, our race & development driver Tom Simpson, data engineer Ryan Lindsay and driver coach Alex Fores.

For those of you who may not be familiar with the Clubsport variant of the Cayman 718 GT4RS, it’s a factory-built GT racer designed for both sprint and endurance racing. Boasting 500hp from a naturally aspirated flat-6 engine, this track-only car weighs 1330kg and Porsche’s fantastic PDK gearbox ensures a sprint to 60mph in just 3.2 seconds.

After doing some media runs and wrapping up testing with the Fiestas, it was time to get the Clubsport into action. As ever, it was a reliable and solid car and it was great to see the coaches and drivers pushing the limits with this extremely capable machine. Alex & Ryan each had a session before it was Daryl’s turn. Daryl enjoyed his go in it immensely, thoroughly putting it through its paces.

Tom (who’s only 15!) was up next, where he provided some incredible laps for what was his first go in this 500hp animal. Keep an eye on our socials to see some footage of these runs - they’re worth a watch! He was not afraid to explore the car’s limits and on his second session even narrowly clipped a hay bale on the apex as he pushed to find the perfect line.

A final fast lap session from Tom brought the day to a close and it was time to pack up and go home. It was great to see Tom in action with the Porsche as he continues to develop his racing skills. His next event in the Fiesta Juniors is at Anglesey in a couple of weeks, where we look forward to another exciting weekend of racing.
